Lake District Guest House accommodation
Guest houses
in the Lake District are similar to Bed and Breakfast accommodation
in that they are private homes which have been converted for the
primary use of guest accommodation, they offer the same warm and
homely feeling and the person who meets you at the front door
is the person who will most likely be cooking your breakfast for
you the next morning. You will find that the same person can supply
you with all the information you need for local events and activities
- they can also advise you as to which restaurants to try etc.
Breakfast
is normally served between 7 and 10 am, although some establishments
can arrange breakfast in bed this is not normally the case. Normally
breakfast is served in a dinning room and there there are separate
numbered tables for each room.
Most of the
guest houses in the Lake District try and use the local produce
for their breakfasts, which normally consist of bacon, sausage,
black pudding, beans, tomato, toast and egg - either scrambled,
poached or fried. Most guest houses also cater for vegetarians,
this should be mentioned when you make your booking.
Most guesthouse
owners either stay in owners accommodation on the premises or
they have their own houses, either way you can be assured of that
personal touch that a hotel cannot offer you. Once you have found
the right guest house for you in a particular area, you are likely
to return to the same place as it will feel like coming home each
time.
If you are
holidaying with small children, please check that the guest house
you have chosen have the facilities for a young child, for example
do they have high chairs, cots, etc. Some guesthouse's do not
have the facilities for babies, but may be willing to let you
put up a travel cot in your room - this should be done by prior
arrangement as they may only cater for couples.
For those
tourists travelling with pets, there are many guest houses that
will accommodate you and your pet together. When searching for
these guest houses, make sure you are searching for "pet
friendly" or "dogs invited" guest houses.
